Information here is general

Everything on this site is general information about accounting, audit and tax matters. It is not advice, and it does not create a client relationship.

Statutory thresholds, deadlines and rules change. We date time-sensitive pages and review them, but you should not act on anything here without confirming it applies to your situation.

No engagement without an engagement letter

We become your accountants when we have both signed an engagement letter setting out the scope, the fee and the terms. Sending us a form, an email or a voicemail does not create that relationship, and you should not send confidential information on the assumption that it has.

External links

We link to statutes, regulators and other authoritative sources. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, though we do check that the links point where we say they do.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from reliance on information on this site. Our responsibility to clients is governed by the engagement letter, not by this page.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California.

Common questions

Not answered here? Ask us directly: we would rather explain it than have you guess.

Can I rely on the thresholds and dates on this site?

Use them to orient yourself, then verify before acting. We cite the underlying authority on every page precisely so you can check. Rules change: the Single Audit threshold moved recently, and the 401(k) participant-counting rule changed in 2023. We date time-sensitive pages, but the primary source always governs.

Does contacting you make me a client?

No. A client relationship begins when we have both signed an engagement letter. Until then, please do not send confidential financial records. Once we are talking, we will send you a secure portal link for exactly that.

The California compliance calendar

Every filing a Los Angeles business, nonprofit or association owes in a year, in date order, with the statute beside it. One page, so it can go on a wall.

  • Federal, California and Los Angeles County dates in a single sequence
  • Entity by entity, so you only read your own rows
  • The citation for each date, so you can check it yourself
  • Reviewed and dated, and reissued when a date moves

There is no instant download. A person sends it, usually the same working day.
